THE GENTRY MOTOR CAR COMPANY CLASSIC LOOKS WITH OLD FASHIONED SERVICE
Our older project cars have now been sold and so we are looking for some more to replace the stock. If you have an old Gentry tucked away in a barn and it is in need of total restoration then please give us a call. All we ask is that it is correctly registered as a Gentry. We have a range of second hand body panels for sale ranging from single piece bonnets, front wings, running boards and doors etc. Please contact us if you are looking for any parts and see what is currently in stock. All of our stock has been photographed and upon request we will email you photos of any parts you may be interested in so you can see them before making any decisions. We have also re-established contact with many other parts suppliers and can now offer a full range of those 'extra' bits that make the Gentry look just right. If you need bumpers, over-riders, running board strips, mirrors, door handles, in fact anything Gentry related then give us a call first. Remember we also offer a Gentry Register members discount wherever possible. We do have the original build manuals for the Triumph and Ford based models that were produced by TP Motors. Some entrepreneurial person has recently been copying these and selling them on Ebay for more than you need to pay. If you want a copy we sell them at £4.95 plus £1.99 postage and packaging (first class recorded service).
SVA and REGISTRATION We are receiving quite a few calls regarding SVA and registration, especially in relation to 'older' incomplete cars. The rules are quite easy to follow but not always used by the relevant authorities which makes giving an exact answer very difficult. As a general rule. To fit the Gentry body onto a Herald chassis requires a modification to the chassis. This will most likely result in the car requiring an SVA. Now that all garages are computer linked for MOT purposes if what you present to them for testing doesn't match what the computer tells them, i.e. Gentry presented for MOT but computer states Triumph Herald, then they can refuse to complete the MOT. If you apply to DVLA for a simple change to the V5 the chances are they will wish to see the vehicle to check numbers etc. If they decide that the vehicle is not just a 'body' change but has undergone other alterations they will refuse to change the details and insist on an SVA test before changing any details on the V5. The 'older' type Gentry will NOT meet the current SVA test unless it undergoes some modifications. These rules are complicated and you would need to get a copy of the rules to check that you are complying with them all before submitting for a test. As an idea of some of the changes required they include, indicator repeater lights for the side, screen demisters, collapsible steering column, security device, changes to the seat belt anchorage height, careful arrangement of instruments and switches on the dash board, door handles and locks. This list is not exhaustive so you need to be careful and understand what you are buying into before taking on a project. If you are thinking of buying any part built Gentry from the net or anywhere else, then please call us before making any decisions. All too often part built cars are sold on when owners realize that getting them on the road and registered may not be as simple as first thought. If you have a Gentry that you would like to sell we are now offering an advertising opportunity here on our site for a single payment of £25. For that your car is advertised for a total of 12 weeks. In the event it has not sold within that time then we would discuss the other opportunities available to you, or re-advertise for a further 8 weeks at a cost of £10. You supply us with your pictures and the description you wish to place on the web site. We do not become involved in the sale, any potential buyers would contact the seller direct. Last summer cars advertised here on our site were usually sold within a few weeks. If you are interested in this option please contact either Geoff or Ellen to discuss..
